Lassen Volcanic National Park; Summer 2009. A collection of visits (hopefully)… June 20, 2009; first day of summer, the extreme weather being reported across the country is hitting us too. We start out under hazy sunshine and end the journey with thunderstorms and a lot of rain. By the time we got to Lassen Park the thunderheads were building and we had very spotty sunshine. It cleared for awhile during our walk around Summit Lake as you can see here. At Manzanita Lake it started out dark and foreboding and continued to get worse until the rain headed us home. Sunset was limited to an occasional glimpse of the white thunderheads towering in the distance. Driving through the summit area had the feel and look of winter, snow and low clouds all around us; even on this first day of summer. I hope you enjoy the tour…
