8-1-2009… SpongeBob Trashed.

Well, one more from my wife here. While I was out hauling an old
Scout down the mountain (busy day), she went on a walk in the park.

SpongeBob SquarePants was there!! Too much coincidence here, did you notice that two days ago I posted a picture of Patrick Star, SpongeBob’s buddy. Today she stumbles on SpongeBob himself!! Okay, it is just a piñata in the trash but still… Had to post the picture, lol…

Also, Paula really appreciated all of your comments on her sandal shot. I must make sure she gets the credit for her work here!!

7-31-2009… Walk A Mile In My Sandals…

Something really different today… My wife has gotten the photo bug (after seeing me go crazy recently due to the illness) and has been taking her share of pictures. She has a gallery here called Paula’s Pics, I have featured it if you are interested in looking.

Today I pulled one of her shots into my dailies for your viewing pleasure. (Plus it gives me a break…) I like this shot, and think she did a great job.

7-22-2009… Inside The Honey Run Covered Bridge.

Another one taken this past Saturday… This is the view inside an old covered bridge that was part of the old road system here. It crosses Butte Creek off Honey Run Road.

A little history - “The Honey Run Covered Bridge, built in 1894, is one of only a few covered bridges in the state. Located in Butte Creek Canyon just outside Paradise it is the only (known) tri-span bridge in the United States.” “The spans were built in sections of 30 ft., 130 ft, and 80 ft for a total of 240 ft. At the time it was first opened for traffic it was not covered.”

Okay, just felt like trying something else on the table… These mushrooms were growing out in the garden, went out to see about some shots out there and they had fallen over… Well, what the heck.

So this is composed to show both the top and bottom detail of the mushrooms. I have no idea what kind they are…

Bought this orchid three years or so ago and every year since have gotten blooms. Thought I’d set them up this year for a shot.

7-1-2009… Black Widow Spider

More wildlife…well maybe. I was picking up in the side yard today, had some old boards stacked up that I was getting rid of. Found this at the bottom of them. One huge black widow spider, I put a quarter in one shot just to give some perspective on the actual size. May not be the best of pictures, but I just had to get some of the gal for the daily...

Guess this would be in that Halloween genre, shot this at the park, a tree stump. It reminded me of the Ghost Busters!

8-28-2009… Finally They Have The Guts…

Well it has been a long time… The CEO of the company I work(ed) for, Aero Union Corporation, died about 6 months ago. The new CEO, one of the owners that took control, has really mixed things up. Those that had for years held the company together thru tough times have been sent to the archives while those that did nothing have been elevated to power. What a shame, a real shame…

While I was one that kept a major program on track, once finalized, I was branded and sent off to the wasteland…

This shot taken about the time this transition started does capture the feeling of a company going down in flames… It appears it is… The management team being propelled forward manages in a bubble and perpetuates lies and deceit thou ought the company. It starts at the top with an attorney that obviously has no self esteem. He promotes those below him that he feels are truly beneath him… They in turn promote those they feel are beneath them, and so on, and so on… The spiral has begun… Those that can manage are being replaced with those that have no clue…

I am sorry if this presentation is too cynical, it is the feeling of the day as I was terminated today. I feel good about my abilities and will move on. This day has been building for quite some time and is not a surprise at all.

7-12-2009… Summer And Scout

I’ve put a couple of pictures here of these pooches already…

I was hoping to get out this weekend and get some shots of some the local events going on, but my son could not find anyone to watch the dogs. Well, who can you always fall back on…so we got to watch the grand-dogs; Summer and Cody. These puppies chew on everything, no leaving them behind.

Our rat terrier, Scout, has really not liked when they come to visit… Things have been changing, slowly, she plays with them more and more at the pool. Now this…caught her!!

She used to sleep up against the warm belly of our chocolate lab all the time… Maybe she is giving in…

8-13-2009… Take The Stairs.

I work out at the Chico Airport Complex, a very complex place. There is a building that has been vacant now (well, more than one) for some time now. I cannot say this is a sign of the economy as this building has been empty long before that. Koret, a distributor of apparel was a casualty of corporate consolidation long before the economic down turn. This is one of many shots I took today that I feel turned out.

While this might not express the emptiness of the building, I thought it was a cool shot. Maybe the odd angle suggests some peril…some anxiety…in climbing these stairs...

10-30-2009… Old, old cameras…

The simple box camera as best I can identify it is a Kodak Hawk-eye No. 2, Model C. Kodak produced this model from 1926 to 1934. Somewhere along the line someone lost the handle and replaced it with some simple cord, I’ve left it alone.

The 3A Folding Pocket Kodak, this one is a model B-4, Eastman Kodak's first postcard format camera, was introduced in 1903 and sold until 1915. That puts this one in the ±100 year old range. This one really had some features…the lens can be adjusted up or down and right and left from the film plane. Shutter speeds of 100th, 50th, 25th of a second, Bulb and Timed, f-stops f4 to f128. An optional glass focus plate was available and an air squeeze shutter release “bulb” could be used. Sweet camera for its day…still is…

Detrola Camera, Model A; Detrola (International Detrola Corp) was a radio and record-player manufacturer, based in Detroit, Michigan. They also made a few cameras, over a very short period they were in business - 1939-40. Most were cheaply-made from Bakelite mouldings and pressed tinplate.

Have many others, but most are packed away…this will be my last of these for a while. Plan on getting them all out and posting in a gallery sometime in the future.
